Mr. Jack Kent Cooke was a businessman, sportsman, and philanthropist. His business interests included ownership of professional sports teams, newspapers, magazines, radio stations, cable television, and real estate holdings. He left most of his fortune to establish the Foundation. One major goal of the Foundation is to identify extraordinary individuals who have excelled in academics as well as other extracurricular activities and help them pursue the kind of formal education Mr. Cooke himself never had.

Qualifications
Applicants must be college seniors or recent graduates (graduated since May 2001) with at least a 3.5 GPA who are enrolled in a graduate program full-time in the fall or will be by April 30th. U.S. citizenship is not required, but scholars must show an appropriate valid U.S. visa to the Foundation each year. Financial need is an important factor in determining recipients.
Amount
The scholarship covers tuition, room and board, required fees, and books up to a maximum of $50,000
Length
For the length of the students graduate degree program, up to six years.
