The APSA Minority Fellows Program, which was established in 1969 as an effort to increase the number of minority scholars in the discipline, has designated more than 300 fellows and contributed to the successful completion of doctoral political science programs for over 70 individuals. The Association has refocused and increased its efforts to assist minority students in completing their doctorates by concentrating not only on the recruitment of minorities, but also on the retention of these groups within the profession.

The Nonprofit Sector Research Fund, a grantmaking program of the Aspen Institute in Washington, DC, offers the William Randolph Hearst Endowed Fellowship three times annually. The fellowship, which is based on academic excellence and need, is open to both undergraduate and graduate students who are members of minority groups. The Hearst Fellow serves as an intern with the Fund. Through this program, the Fund seeks to introduce a diverse group of students to issues relating to philanthropy, volunteerism, and nonprofit organizations. Recipients may arrange with their colleges or universities to receive academic credit for this experience.

The National GEM Consortium's primary focus is to administer and award full fellowships with paid internships to highly qualified under-represented students who wish to pursue graduate studies in engineering or science. GEM Fellows are provided practical engineering summer work experiences through an employer sponsor and a portable academic year fellowship of tuition, fees, and a stipend which may be used at any participating GEM Member University where the GEM Fellow is admitted.
Qualifications
Applicants must be a junior, senior, or graduate student of an engineering or computer science program, must have a minimum GPA of 2.8 and must contractually agree to intern with sponsoring GEM Employer until completion of graduation school. Applicants must also be U.S. citizens and be a member of the following under-represented groups: American Indian/Native, African American/Black, or Hispanic American/Latino
Amount
$10,000 over 3 semesters, a minimum of 2 paid summer internships, full tuition and fees at a GEM Member University
