MFP Fellows are selected on the basis of their commitment to research, the focus of their research experience, academic achievement, scholarship, writing ability, research potential, financial need, and racial/ethnic minority background. Specifically, applicants must be members of one of the following racial/ethnic groups: Blacks/African Americans, Latinos/as (e.g., Mexican Americans, Puerto Ricans, Cubans), American Indians or Alaskan Natives, and Asians (e.g., Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Southeast Asian), or Pacific Islanders (e.g., Hawaiian, Guamanian, Samoan, Filipino). Ph.D. Program Applicants must be a senior, masters student, or graduate student of an engineering or applied science program (see website for eligible disciplines), must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0, and must contractually agree to intern with a GEM Employer member at least once early on or before the start of the Ph.D. program. Applicants: 1) Must be a member of an underrepresented group, which includes women, ethnic minorities and persons with disabilities majoring in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline. 2) Must either be within the first 3 years of a graduate program at an accredited, U.S. university OR be in the process of applying to an accredited STEM graduate program. Note: Persons who have advanced to doctoral candidacy are ineligible. Non-Degree or special status students who are enrolled in masters or doctoral level courses are ineligible. 3) Cannot participate in any other federally-funded fellowship or scholarship program 4) Fellows are required to be enrolled as a full-time student. Although the fellowship is not renewable during the three-year period, the availability of support for subsequent years is 1) subject to availability of funds and 2) contingent upon certification to NASA by the fellow's institution that the fellow is making satisfactory academic progress toward an advanced degree

The IIPP welcomes applications from undergraduate sophomores who: 1) Are enrolled full-time at an accredited four-year baccalaureate-granting institution; 2) Are U.S. Citizens or legal residents (documentary support required); 3) Have a minimum 3.2 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale); 4) Possess strong analytical skills; 5) Have a strong demonstrated interest in international affairs; 6) Are an underrepresented minority (African American, Hispanic/Latino American, Asian American, American Indian, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander); and 7) Plan to seek admission to a two-year master's degree program in international affairs.
